At Studio Fifth Sunday, we believe that great design and great art come from the same place—vision, curiosity, and a deep respect for materials and form.

Here are some of our favorite artists, designers, objects and other inspirations.
Artist of the Month: Hanneke Lourens
We met Hanneke Lourens at Neocon in Chicago, and while her work instantly caught our eye, it was meeting her in person that truly left an impression. Her energy is magnetic, and her pieces reflect that same balance of strength and soul. At first glance, her work feels quiet and refined—but the longer you spend with it, the more the craftsmanship reveals itself.

Born in South Africa and now based in Northern California, Hanneke brings a global sensibility to contemporary furniture design, infusing each piece with the spirit and vibrancy of her roots. Working from a converted cow barn in the redwoods, she handcrafts each item with a deep commitment to longevity and detail. It’s no surprise she was named one of Wallpaper* Magazine’s rising stars in 2024—her work feels destined to become iconic.

Baron & Vicario - extraordinary objets of glass

We first discovered Baron & Vicario at Design Week in Mexico City and were immediately drawn to their work—equal parts bold, refined, and deeply connected to the artisans of their region.
Their glass pieces are almost otherworldly—sculptural forms that challenge expectation and celebrate process.

Satellite -Dirk van der Kooij, 2012 recycled plastic, LED lighting

The Satellite Light brings an effortlessly cool presence to any room—casting sculptural shadows and visual intrigue. Whether paired with modern minimalism or layered into a more traditional space, it only asks for one thing: room to shine.
Total Enviroment - innovative developers that think beyond the ordinary

Total Environment is a developerand architecture firm we deeply admire for their innovative, out-of-the-box approach. In a market often driven by cost efficiency, they prioritize design that enriches lives—through thoughtful green space, sustainable materials, and architecture that fosters meaningful connection between people and place.

Zia Tile - stunning handmade and natural stone tiles

Zia Tile is one of our go-to sources for their beautifully curated selection of materials—from richly textured handmade Zellige to bold concrete patterns and timeless natural stone. Their range brings depth, color, and craftsmanship to every space.
Reflect by Reform Cabinets - european stainless steel kitchens

Reflect offers a European-style kitchen with a distinct furniture-like feel. Pair it with warm oak for a dramatic, sophisticated look—or introduce color for something more playful and expressive.
India Mahdavi - interior designer with a extraordinary bravery in color

India Mahdavi, the Paris-based designer and architect, is known for her command of color. Her work is bold—sometimes nearly psychedelic—yet she demonstrates restraint when the space calls for it. Not to everyone’s taste, perhaps, but undeniably visionary.

I have had the opportunity to visit several of her designs and love the way she uses color, texture and form.
In Common With - lighting
that is anything but common

In Common With? Sure, they’re competition—but also inspiration. Their lighting often complements our own, pairing beautifully with the spaces and pieces we create. A shared sensibility, different expressions.
MMO My Modern Oasis - curated vintage and handmade objects

My Modern Oasis offers one of the city’s best selections of vintage and handmade objects. Every visit reveals a fresh, curated mix of soulful pieces—each one rooted in culture, craft, and story.
Astana Rug Collection Surya - rich deep pile rugs

Astana Rugs are made from 100% wool with a deep, luxurious pile and variegated dye that gives each piece a subtle, organic texture. While the neutral tones bring softness and calm to a space, the deep red and ochre options offer rich, saturated color without overwhelming the room. There’s an earthy, grounded quality to these rugs that balances the visual impact with ease.

Janet Trieweiler- fine art abstracts

Janet is an extraordinary artist whose work is exhibited across the country—and we’re lucky to call her both a friend and a Chicago neighbor. She teaches at the Evanston Art Center and brings the same warmth and expressiveness to her community that she does to her vibrant, captivating paintings.

Who Modern - vintage modern furniture and objects

Who Modern is one of the finest sources for vintage modern furniture in the Chicagoland area. Their collection is thoughtfully sourced from around the world, with exceptional care taken in restoration and finishing. Just as impressive as their pieces is their deep knowledge of the designers and makers behind them.
David Pompa - minimalist lighting with soul

From his studio in Mexico City, David Pompa creates strikingly minimal designs—flawless in detail and grounded in craftsmanship. I’ve had the privilege of attending several of his product launches, and while the pieces themselves are exceptional, it’s his ability to tell a story through his brand that truly sets him apart. Every element feels intentional—crafted not just to be seen, but to be felt.
Jeremiah Brent - interior designer with a casual sophistication

Jeremiah Brent is a constant source of inspiration for his use of neutrals and casual sophistication. His spaces feel elevated yet approachable—refined, warm, and effortlessly livable.
