Hyde Park Kitchen

Year

2023

The original kitchen just wasn’t working for my client — the layout created tight pinch points and closed off the back of the house more than they liked. They initially wanted to move the staircase behind the kitchen wall, but I was able to offer design solutions that gave them the openness and flow they were after without such a major structural change.

Originally, the fridge sat on this wall and disrupted the visual flow from the front to the back of the home. By relocating the range here instead, we opened up the sight lines and turned the range wall into a true focal point.

The green lower cabinets paired with off-white uppers add depth and interest, while the clean white countertops and backsplash keep the overall look light and fresh. We extended the cabinetry all the way to the ceiling, finishing it with frosted glass doors and interior lighting to create a soft, elevated glow.

The client fell in love with these beautiful unlacquered brass drawer pulls. Over time, they’ll develop a natural patina, adding a sense of age and warmth that connects beautifully with the layered character of the rest of the home.

We added a peninsula at the end of the cabinet run to create a small entertaining space — a place where someone could sit, have a drink, or chat while another person is cooking. This was a key detail for the client and something they really wanted to include.

By keeping the base open underneath, it takes up less visual weight and keeps the kitchen feeling light and spacious. At the same time, the waterfall edge gives it a sense of permanence and substance, helping it feel intentional and balanced within the overall design.

"We love how this kitchen blends classic style with a modern edge, creating a space that feels current but still belongs beautifully within this timeless townhouse. It's a thoughtful balance of old and new that feels both fresh and rooted."
