CLAY + CANVAS

A practice split between earth and image—between what’s felt and what’s fixed

This hand-thrown vessel embraces imperfection—its soft, asymmetrical form and subtle glaze shifts echo the natural irregularities of the earth it came from. Featured in RH Interiors, it brings a quiet, sculptural presence to the space.

Artist Statement

At Studio Fifth Sunday, our creative work often starts in the studio—at the wheel or the canvas.

For me, pottery is the most freeing part of that process. It’s physical, instinctive, and rooted in repetition. Clay allows for rhythm and release—each piece shaped more by feel than by plan.

Painting, on the other hand, is where I find structure. I approach it with more restraint—more editing, more control. The tension between the two practices keeps me balanced. One lets me let go; the other sharpens my eye. Together, they inform how we think about objects, materials, and the emotional weight they carry within a space.

Marrón Verdoso layers earthy tones and gestural marks to explore rhythm, repetition, and quiet tension on canvas.
